Wings Over Wick |
Heinkel 111 shot down at Wick airport on 8th April 1940 by a member of 43 Squadron flying a Hurricane. The squadron diary states "Heinkel 111 destroyed by Sgt. Hallowes 8/4/1940, crashed on Wick aerodrome, both rear gunners dead after a 1 second burst from .303m.gs. further firing was impossible because of the fractured air line to guns." If you look closely you can see the tail plane has many bullet holes. Under the cockpit you can also see the lion emblem of the German squadron KG26. |
