War Time In Caithness
Memories of World War Two And Shortly After

Some time ago we began publishing the Wings Over Wick collection made by Hillhead school in 1994.   It has been suggested that there might be many other people who might like to contribute their memories of that period to a section.  If you or a relative or friend have something you or they would like to tell us about get in touch.

We will add more to this section as they are sent in.  Perhaps you might like to ask and elderly relative some questions and write up a paragraph or two.    It need not be from someone in the forces.  Any memories of that time on any topic would be of interest.   People who worked on farms or were drafted into factories for war work might also have interesting experiences to relate.  So if you were in Caithness or came from Caithness and were involved get in touch.

Warwick Crew At Wick

Frank Williams
Frank was based in Caithness after the war when he returned from service in India.  He was stationed at the German prisoner of war camp at Watten and met his wife in Caithness.  Isabelle Thurley sent in this record of his memories following her visit to North Wales where he lives.
