17 July 06 Tickets are going like hot cakes at the moment, but there are still some available. Most of the tickets that I have sold personally over the past few weeks are going to people who had not previously expressed an interest in coming. If you still need to get your tickets, please get them as soon as possible, we don’t want you to be disappointed. Most importantly, I need to give the hotel final numbers for the food on the night. Tickets from Libbet Harrold in DE Shoe shop or Jane Miller, The Flower Shop, Breadalbane Terrace. Probably a bit late to get them by post from myself.
28 May 06 Half Canned will be providing the musical entertainment on the night and there may be surprise artistes performing during the interval. Of those who have confirmed their attendance, Margaret Murphy (nee Henderson) is once again arriving from the USA for the event and Janet Milford (nee Harvey) is determined that she is not missing this one. Janet lives in Australia and is hoping to meet up with all her old school pals that she has not seen for many years. Celia More, who owned The Flower Shop when the last reunion took place, is making sure that Janet is not disappointed. This time around Celia will not have to create wedding bouquets on the Saturday morning! Unfortunately Alex (Sanders) Swanson will not be able to make it from Trinidad this year. Gordon Donaldson had just returned from Caithness to Australia last September, so regretfully can’t manage a trip again this year. However he has promised to come if he wins the Lotto. I won’t embarrass anyone else by naming him or her, but I’m sure that none of the above will mind me giving him or her a mention. Looking forward to meeting all those people who are able to attend. Please get your tickets as soon as possible, so that we can gauge final numbers. Janis
30 March 06 Guided by your suggestions, we’ve now booked Half Canned to play at the reunion. My confessions of what CDs I have playing in my car, seemed to do the trick. Personally speaking, I’m sure that Maximo Park would have been fine, but they are probably booked up for that night. We have booked a finger buffet with vegetarian options and tickets are now available, price £12. These are on a strictly limited basis; so if you have not already booked your tickets, please get in touch as soon as possible. There is a new list on the website, of those coming to the reunion. If I have missed you off, my apologies, let me know and I will amend the list. Tickets are available from my home address. Please make out cheques to “Wick High 50” and enclose a stamped addressed envelope. I’m hoping that we can also get a sales point in Wick for tickets, but can’t confirm this yet. This is at the start of Wick Gala Week, so an added incentive to attend if you live away from the county. While I’m thinking about music and bands, do you remember music lessons at Wick High School? We had to do a mini audition for the music teacher and those that could sing, sat at the front of the class. If you were allocated a seat in the back row, the music teacher considered you to be tone deaf. There were sessions where you had to write down information on composers. “Verdi was born in Italy in 1813 and died in 1901, etc.” The information was read out at a rollicking pace, which we were meant to keep up with. I just remember getting cramp in my hand and being unable to read my scrawls afterwards. But the bit that really sticks in my mind was the little ritual we had to go through when we first sat down at our desks. Starting with the front row, the desks had to be lined up on a certain row of tiles on the floor. It must have taken quite a while to get to the back row, which probably explains why we had to write the Verdi information out so quickly. Despite all this, I did learn to read music in the class. Look forward to hearing your reminiscences. Janis Paterson (nee McGee) P.S. When we were at school we didn’t have the Internet to find out when Verdi lived! 11 February 06 We’d also like to know which band we should be booking for the event. I know that there is a lot of musical talent in Caithness, but what type of music would you like to hear? Please let me know by email or post, as soon as possible, so that we can get the booking made. Last time around, we managed to get quite a few school photos which can still be viewed on the website. Does anyone have any reminiscences from school? Over the past few weeks I have been sharing stories with some of my old school friends. Funny how the stories all come flooding back, when you start thinking about school again. Some of course, could not be repeated in public, but I’d love to hear some of your tales from school. We can share the printable ones on the website. Hope to hear from you soon. Janis Paterson (nee McGee)
22 January 06 I'm delighted to see that there are a few new names on the list, but quite a few who attended last time, are not on the list yet. Please let me know as soon as possible, if you are thinking of attending. If you've been in touch and I've missed you off the list, my apologies. In this case, please send me a terse reminder. With the volume of mail in my inbox it is difficult to keep track. Look forward to hearing from you soon. Janis Wick High School Reunion 54 - 56 The Mackay's Hotel has been provisionally booked for Friday 21st July 2006. This should coincide with Wick Gala Week, so you have an added incentive for attending, if you do not live locally. I'd like to get some sort of idea about
likely numbers, so please get in touch with me at Just in case you have forgotten how much you enjoyed yourself last time. Check out : http://www.caithness.org/reunions/reunion4951/index.htm |
