NEW EDUCATION, CULTURE AND SPORT MANAGER FOR CAITHNESS

The Highland Council's Area Community Learning and Leisure Manager for Caithness and Sutherland, Mr Graham Nichols, has been appointed as The Highland Council's Education, Culture and Sport Manager for Caithness.

In April the Council announced that Education Manager for Caithness and Sutherland, Annette Sharland, would be retiring during the summer and, following a review by the Education, Culture and Sport Service, agreed to establish the post of an Education Culture and Sport manager for Caithness and an Education, Culture and Sport manager for Sutherland.

Mr Nichols is a graduate of Loughborough University. He began his working life in management of a large sports centre in Peterborough and then came north, to Perth, as General Manager of facilities owned by Perth and Kinross Council. In 1995 he began life in the Highland as Director of the Amenities, Leisure and Recreation Service of Sutherland District Council. Highland Council came into existence in 1996 and he became the Area Cultural & Leisure Services Manger. He continued in this, adding Caithness to his remit in 1999 and also spending some time as acting Chief Executive of Caledonia Community Leisure. When the Education, Culture and Sport Service was created in 2003 he became Community Learning and Leisure Manager for Caithness and Sutherland.

Keen on river, sea and loch fishing, Mr Nichols is married with two children and lives in Golspie. He will take up his new post at the beginning of July.

The post of Education, Culture and Sport Manager for Sutherland is currently been advertised.
