Caithness Horizons
NEW CHAIRMAN FOR CAITHNESS HORIZONS
A full complement of directors were in attendance at the latest Caithness Horizons board meeting to work together and review progress on the current phase of work.

Company Chairman Roger Saxon asked the Board to consider how to take the Chairmanship forward, and suggested an independent Chair may have more time to devote to the project and lead as a visible project champion.

Paul Cariss, an existing board director, was unanimously elected as the new Chair and in accepting his new role said 'I am honoured to become the Chairman of such a forward thinking and ambitious Company and I look forward to working with the project team and the local community to create an outstanding facility we can all be very proud of'.

Beth Taylor spoke on behalf of all the directors in saying "We are very grateful to Roger for taking on the role of founder Chairman and dedicating so much time to the project, in spite of his own heavy responsibilities. Roger has led the company through a key phase of the project, which stands us in good stead for guaranteeing the success of Caithness Horizons'.

The Company is now tasked with seeking the full financial package in time for the final bid in September for European funding.

As part of the evolving design plans, a decision has also been taken to revise the main entrance. The changed layout is a marked improvement to the front reception area and makes for a better welcome and enhanced local attraction and community building.

Public presentations and community briefings are planned for early September, following the outcome of the Heritage Lottery Fund application.

John Thurso, Caithness Horizons Honorary Patron, has also accepted an invitation to attend the next meeting in August, and will work with the Board in preparation for the crucial funding applications.

Leaflets summarising the project's aims and objectives are available in the Town Hall, Thurso Museum and at the Thurso Service Point.
