Annual General Meeting Held 7 November 2002
The First Annual General Meeting was held on 7.11.02. The minutes of the 2001 General Meeting were agreed. The Chairman told the meeting that the first year as a Group has been very busy with the Committee meeting on a monthly basis. The Chairman along with Mr Murdo Macleod represented the group on the working party for the new Renal Unit. The Unit will be officially opened by Lord Maclennan of Rogart in April 2003.

The second aim of the Group was to raise funds. With the funds we have supported patients suffering from kidney disease. We have also donated a total of £15, 000 to the Unit for the purchase of equipment.

We plan to hold a Celebration Dance in Wick Dounreay Club on Saturday 18th January 2003. Tickets are £5 and music is being provided by Remix. Any one wishing to purchase tickets should contact any of the Committee members.

The Chairman along with the Committee was "staggered" by the generosity of people. We have received over £22, 000 in one year. The Chairman thanked the public for their enormous support and the Committee members for their commitment over the past year. A detailed financial statement for the year ending 31st October 2002 was distributed.

The Chairman asked for volunteers for Committee members. It was agreed that the previous committee members present at the meeting would stand again (Mr Robert Doull, Mr Eann Plowman, Mrs Mhari Ann Plowman, Miss Fiona Harper, Mrs Jackie Mackay, Ms Frances Purves and Mrs Kirsteen Mackay) along with new members Mr J Manson, Mrs Liz McDonald and Mr Norman Macleod. It was agreed to elect office bearers at the first Committee meeting.

The Chairman told everyone about the latest donation of £3968 from the Caithness Amateur Athletic Club who held a very successful relay between Wick and Thurso. Everyone agreed that this was a fantastic amount of money donated and thanks was given to Event Organiser, Ms Sophie Dunnett.

Mrs Sheena Craig, Directorate General Manager, Caithness General Hospital gave a very informative talk about the development and progress that has been made with the unit. She summed-up her talk up with "where are we at" which included:

The building work, specialist work (water filtration, nurse call system, medical gases) and staff training are all on schedule.

The Unit equipment being commissioned during December 2002.

Informal visit of the unit for the patients in December 2002.

Opening of the unit January 2003.

Official Opening of the unit April 2003.

The first Committee meeting of the Group will be confirmed at a later date.
