Free Personal and Nursing Care On 1 July 2002 free personal care is being introduced for people aged 65 and over. People living at home will no longer be charged for the personal care they are assessed as needing. Those people living in care homes who pay their own care costs will be entitled to a payment for their personal and nursing care. Many people should benefit from these changes. If you think you might be eligible, you will need to apply to your local authority social work services.
