'KILL YOUR SPEED 'CAMPAIGN  THE LATEST DRIVE TO REDUCE ROAD ACCIDENTS 25 March
The latest drive to reduce road accidents in Northern Constabulary. The Force wide initiative known as 'Speed Kills' is aimed at all drivers in the Highlands and Islands and is part of the National No Speeding campaign.

The campaign to raise awareness of the dangers associated with drivers who speed will culminate with a crack down on speeding drivers across the Force from Glencoe to Lerwick on 1st April which is National No Speeding Day.

Inspector Les Donaldson, Road Policing, Northern Constabulary says, "Unfortunately the communities across the Highlands and Islands are not immune to the serious consequences of speeding drivers. Over 66% of all accidents in which people are killed or injured happen on built up areas where the speed limit is 40 mph or less. Many people only associate the dangers of excessive speed with motorways and trunk roads however one of the objectives of this campaign is to bring home the facts related to excessive speeding on all classes of roads including single track and minor roads."

This initiative is an integral part of the wider Road Safety Strategy in which Northern Constabulary along with their partners are committed to making our roads safer.   Northern Constabulary will be carrying out speed checks across the Force area including the Western Isles, Orkney, and Shetland. A comprehensive list of all the sites policed on the 1st April is provided with this note.
Senior Officers from Northern Constabulary including the Deputy Chief Constable, Inspector Road Policing and Road Safety Officer along with Highland Council Road Safety Officer a representative from the Safer Routes to School Project, pupils from Charleston Academy and Grampian Police will attend the launch on Friday.
