CONVENER WELCOMES SPENDING BONUS

An additional spending allocation of £4,277,000 – approved by the Scottish Executive to be spent on important community issues - has been welcomed by The Highland Council Convener Councillor David Green.

Councillor Green said: "This is a very welcome bonus indeed.  The priorities earmarked by the Executive for spending, such as health improvement and community safety, reflect the importance which we attach to these areas of local interest.

"Our eight area committees are currently considering local projects which could benefit from this funding. Bids will go to our Budget Working Group for consideration before a final report is presented to the full council."

Projects identified by the Executive range from improving local roads and pathways to tackling graffiti and vandalism; reducing litter; local environment initiatives, as well as promoting healthy eating and investment in play parks and sports equipment.
