Competition Success for Caithness Rhythmic Gymnasts at Scottish Novice Championships

The Scottish Rhythmic Gymnastics Novice Championships were recently held at Craigwillow, Livingston.

Three Rhythmic Gymnasts from the Caithness Gymnastics Club made the long journey down to the competition.

The gymnasts perform two routines set to music using a piece of hand held equipment, the routine lasting no more than 1 minute 30 seconds.

Sine Hamilton performed first in the Under 14 age group with her free routine (performed without equipment), she gave a good solid performance and ended the first round in sixth place. She consolidated this with a really good performance in her Ball routine and ended the day in sixth place, a really fantastic result in her first appearance at this competition.

Natalia Hodgson and Gemma Wares were in the over 14 age group and in their first routine competed using the Hoop. Natalia was the Under 14 Champion last year and this year moved up into the over 14 age group. Natalia gave a near perfect performance in her Hoop routine and at the end of the first round she was lying in First place. Last year Gemma came Second in the competition and this year got off to a very good start with her Hoop routine ending the first round in second place. For their second routine, both gymnasts gave way to a few nerves but at the end of the competition Natalia held on to her lead and became Scottish Novice Champion for the over 14 age group. Gemma came a very close second and received the silver medal.

All three gymnasts competed extremely well and had a really enjoyable day.
