Photo: North Head Memorial Fenced Off Due To Falling Masonry
Date: 8 June 2013
Location: Wick, Caithness, Scotland
Photographer: Bill Fernie

The monument seen on the north head was conceived by the late John Horne as a memorial to men from Caithness who died in various wars and battles before the First World War. Frank Foden in his book Wick of the North comments that there is something sad about this dilapidated monument to long forgotten conflicts. The names reflect the British Empire's struggles - Corunna, Gabon, Kandahar, Chitral, Egypt, Afghanistan, Zululand, South Africa, Waterloo, Balaclava, Sevastopol and more.
