Hillhead Awarded Green Flag
Hillhead Primary School has recently been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award making it the only school in Caithness and the largest school in the Highlands to be named an Eco-School. Eco-schools is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment.

Over the past few years the whole school has been involved in making Eco-Schools part of the curriculum. In addition last year Eco-committee with the support of a Scottish National Heritage grant re-designed The Square to include a bird table, sitting areas and planting areas for staff and pupils to enjoy. This year's Eco-Committee has continued to develop the square and encouraging people to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

The Eco-committee, made up of staff and pupils, played a central role in co-ordinating the work in the school. Robyn Hughes chairperson said "It has been a lot of work being on the committee but also a lot of fun. I am delighted that we were able to earn the Green Flag."

Mr Henderson the Eco-Schools co-ordinator said "I am delighted with how hard everyone has worked towards integrating the ethos of Eco-Schools into Hillhead Primary School allowing us to earn the Green Flag and become an Eco-School." Well done to Hillhead Primary School for all their hard work and success.

Another Successful Bring And Buy
The Bring and Buy sale at Hillhead is organised and run by the Primary 7 pupils each year. All proceeds go towards the cost of the Primary 7 trip to York. It is an important event in the diary of the pupils as for many it is one of the first times they are free to purchase an item without the guiding ideas of their parents. Bargains abound and you might always find that special something. Few things sell for more than 20p. Money is still trickling in but a final sum of around 340 is expected. Have a look at some happy customers including pupils, staff and students.
