Wings Over Wick
1939 - 1945

I was in the WAAF and not actually at Wick but a Radar Operator at
Tannach a few miles away. However, I remember Wick because it was from
there that a party of us had our first flight - actually officially to
see the aerial Radar equipment in use but really a good excuse to get a
free flight - bearing in mind that few people ever flew anywhere before
1939.
It must have taken place during the summer of 1945
and we went in a B17 - "Flying Fortress" with a RAF crew. We flew up
over John O'Groats and along the North coast before coming back to Wick.
