Holborn Head is a relatively short walk out along the cliffs from Holborn Head Lighthouse which is at Scrabster Harbour. The pictures taken on this day in February were show brilliant sunshine although it was extremely cold with the ground hard with frost making it excellent for walking rather than the somewhat wet ground often found at this time of year. Holborn Head runs out on the west side of Thurso Bay and gives great views over to Dunnet Head. the route needs you to clamber over a few stiles and takes you to the point where there are several blow holes and a gloup where the sea is over the continues breaking through underground from the cliffs nearby. Children and dogs need to be under the strictest control in this area as none of the holes are fenced and the ground can be very slippery. The walk itself is well away from the cliff edges. At the end of the headland is a stack. It takes about 45 minutes to walk out and back to the lighthouse. |
