SNP SELECT CANDIDATE FOR CAITHNESS, SUTHERLAND AND EASTER
ROSS SEAT
Caithness,
Sutherland and Easter Ross SNP Constituency Association have recently
selected their candidate to fight the forthcoming Westminster elections.
Karen Shirron is currently a local councillor with Aberdeen City Council
where she is the SNP Deputy Group Leader and a Parliamentary Assistant to
Brian Adam, SNP MSP for Aberdeen North. First elected to the Council in
1999 with a majority of 7, she was re-elected in 2003 with a majority of
336.
The mother of three adult daughters who
has a joint degree in History and Celtic Civilisation said:
"I am really looking forward to the opportunity that fighting this
constituency offers. There are some very important national issues that
affect the local communities of Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross and
we need to make sure that local people are kept informed and, more
importantly, their views listened to. During this election campaign I
intend to highlight and tackle the issues that affect the local
communities within Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross".
Ms Shirron, who did research in land
reform as part of her postgraduate studies, has a love of Scottish history
and culture which pre-empted her choice of Celtic Civilisation at degree
level. She is honoured to be representing the SNP in the seat.
"The only party that fights Scotland's
corner is the SNP; Scotland's party. I can assure the people of the local
communities that, if elected, I will put the interests of the people of
Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross first".
