The conference of the Scottish
Women's Rural Institute that takes place every three years was a great
success in Caithness. This was the first time the conference had
been held so far north. With a wide range of speakers and
entertainment the ladies were kept busy throughout there few days in the
county. A dance on Wednesday night with the Bobby Coghill Dance
Band was great hit as was Colin Campbell who gave renditions from his
famous Radio Caithness and songs with his accordian.
Lord Thurso the member of parliament for Caithness, Sutherland and north Ross-shire presented the prizes and brought the proceedings to close with a speech relating tales from his working career and times from his younger days in Caithness. He was asked to send everyone home with a smile and he brought the house down several times with some of his tales from the hotels of London and Paris where he worked at various levels before running several as his career progressed. |
