UNISON NURSERY NURSES DISPUTE
23 October 03 Planned strike action in the Unison Nursery Nurses dispute for the dates Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th October has been suspended following a series of meetings over the October holidays between Unison and Highland Council officials. Although no formal agreement has been reached, there has been enough common ground covered as a basis for discussion for a final agreement. Donald Shiach, Highland Unison Representative said: "Shifting the emphasis to local discussions has enabled us to move towards a solution that reflects the way nursery education is structured in Highland. We are still some way from a final package which will satisfy our members' aspirations, but we felt that enough progress had been made to suspend strike action meantime. We will be meeting again over the next week with a view to reaching a final package which we can then discuss with nursery staff across the Highlands." Bruce Robertson, Highland Councils Director of Education, Culture and Sport Service said: I am delighted that there have been productive negotiations and thank Unison on their decision to suspend strike action next week which will make a huge difference to hundreds of families across Highland. |
