SEA-ANGLER TO TACKLE BUSINESS A Caithness sea-angler has risen to the challenge of starting his own business, and is to produce and market a range of fishing tackle to anglers the length and breadth of the country. Graham Finn, who lives in Freswick, has started trading as Kingfisher Activities. He has converted a previously derelict outbuilding into a workshop in which he will produce various items, such as weights, pirks, traces and rigs. Along with his partner, Patricia Heath - who was a member of the England sea-angling team - they have been actively marketing their products and have secured orders from various local outlets, and from as far afield as Argyll and Devon. HIE Starts assistance from Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise (CASE) has enabled Graham him to establish the business. Graham said: "The assistance and guidance we have received from Ian Thomson and Keith Muir at CASE has been enormous in getting the business started. Keith has been very helpful with the computer side of things, particularly in showing Patricia where the 'undo' button is!" "We have also been very encouraged with the interest we have had from wholesalers in the fishing rigs that we make. We both feel we have a wealth of experience to offer, and with the tackle development and coaching we hope to be able to progress the business further whilst at the same time retaining the personal touch of being a cottage industry." CASE business counsellor, Ian Thomson, said: "As an enthusiastic angler for many years, Graham is aware of the steady demand for additional and replacement fishing tackle. He is also a Professional Angling Coach and a member of the Professional Angling Association so I am sure his contacts throughout the sport will prove to be very valuable to the future success of the business."
