Burst Water Main At Junction of
A99 and March Road Cuts Water To Part Of Wick
A
burst water main at the junction of March Road and the A99 just outside
Wick resulted in the water having to be turned off for part of Wick up to
the Caithness General Hospital from the South side of town today Tuesday
28 May 2002. The burst
happened when an old cast iron main pipe burst. these cast iron
pipes were laid in the early 1950's and corrosion is now affecting them.
This has been anticipated and the water authorities are now engaged in
replacing these pipes around Caithness.
This
particular burst was reported to Scottish Water who sent out a team to
check and the water supply was switched off about 3.30pm to effect
repairs. It was anticipated that the plastic pipe repair would be
effective and the water would be built up to pressure gradually and all
supplies should return to normal by about 6.00pm |
