Caithness News Bulletins March 2004
Caithness Badminton Assoc - Junior Section Held their 2nd Caithness Highland Restricted on Saturday 6th /Sunday 7th March in Wick and Thurso Games Halls. In the Wick Games Hall we were host to the U14's from Caithness/Shetland/Orkney/Forres/Culloden/BeaulyArdgay. There was a total 38 boys and 18 girls entered and a total of 138 games of excellent badminton played. Despite not having the facilities that the other competitors have on their door steps ie a Community Sports Centre our local boys and girls did very well. The match of the day was between Bryan McKiddie, Wick and Shane Jamieson, Shetland in the semi-finals of the boys singles it really was a tough match with lots of rallies and both boys not giving in until eventually Bryan with his lovely drop and well placed shots and speed around the court went on to win 21/18. (The parents of Paul Carey from Beauly who took the 3 titles in the U14 section couldn't believe we didn't have a sports centre in either Wick or Thurso and that we only get the Games Halls from September to March.) Winners trophies were presented at a Buffet in the Pentland Hotel. Some of the competitors were not able to go to the buffet so got their trophies at the end of the competition. Ali MacKay presented the trophies in Wick and Andy Nicolson, President of the CBA presented the trophies in the Pentland Hotel.
