Caithness Gymnasts Success At
Scottish Rhythmic Gymnastics Novice Championships
Last Saturday three Rhythmic Gymnasts
from Caithness took part in the Scottish Novice Championships for Rhythmic
Gymnastics, held at the Craigwillow Centre, Livingston, West Lothian.
Natalia Hodgson and Anna Cassidy both
aged 13 competed in the Under 14 Category. They both performed their
routines very well, with Natalia taking the title of Scottish Novice
Champion for her age group and Anna taking the Silver Medal. Gemma Wares
aged 15 competed in the over 14 age group, she gave a solid performance
and also took the silver medal in her age group.
There was also an open competition,
which included gymnasts from England, in this competition Natalia received
the silver medal with Anna taking the Bronze and Gemma also receiving a
Bronze Medal.
Rhythmic Gymnastics is less well known
as its counterpart Artistic Gymnastics but requires the same degree of
skill and dedication and uses hand held apparatus combined with body
skills.
This is only the Second time Caithness
Gymnastics Club have competed in the National championships and is only
one of four clubs offering Rhythmic Gymnastics in Scotland and the only
Club in Highland Region. In The
