Fire Death
About 4.25.pm on Tuesday 18th March 2003, police at Thurso received a report of  an area of grassland on fire close to the Old Post Office, Westerdale, where the remains of a female had been discovered by members of the public.

The remains have been identified as DONALDINA MACLEOD, 81 years.  A report regarding the circumstances has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in Wick.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this death.

Strathy Fire
A large hill blaze required the attendance of fire tenders from Thurso, Bettyhill, Durness and Strathy.  Wick and Dunbeath were also called out to cover Thurso but then sent back later.
