HIGHLAND YOUTH PARLIAMENT The fourth meeting of the Highland Youth Voice, the young peoples parliament, will be opened on Friday, 22 March 2002 at the Badaguish Centre, near Aviemore, by Northern Constabulary Chief Constable, Ian Latimer, who will take the opportunity to launch the Forces youth strategy for consultation. Mr Latimer said: "This strategy demonstrates
Northern Constabularys commitment to our young people. It is hoped that
the actions set out in this document will be adopted. The aim is to
engender a positive relationship between our young people and the police
and ultimately lead to a reduction in crime ensuring that the Highlands
and Islands remain the safest place to live in the United Also speaking to the 60 young parliamentarians on Friday will be Charles Kennedy, MP for Ross Skye and Inverness West and Leader of the Liberal Democrats. He has been invited to launch the redeveloped Youth Voice web site www.highlandyouthvoice.org . The revamped web site will feature the Youth Voices first online debate on the issue of citizen cards for young people in Highland. The e-democracy services and associated website are being developed for the Wellbeing Alliance, a grouping of key Highland agencies, by the International Teledemocracy Centre in close collaboration with the young people from Youth Voice. All young people under the age of 18 will be able get passwords to join in the online debates and discussions. Older people will be able to read the discussions to help find out what young people are thinking on a variety of issues. Caithness will be represented by six pupils from secondary schools in Wick and Thurso. Youth Voice Chairman Calum Duncan, Inverness Royal
