SEVEN HIGHLAND BEACHES WIN SEASIDE AWARDS
Six rural beaches in Sutherland and a resort beach at Nairn have won seaside awards issued by Keep Scotland Beautiful and the Tidy Britain Group which gives them the right to fly the coveted yellow flag.

These awards for all the Highland beaches followed a rigorous assessment during last summer for water quality, cleanliness, facilities for visitors, safety measures, supervision, access and clear information available for the public.

This year in Sutherland, the beaches at Strathy Bay, Embo and Brora have joined Dornoch, Golspie and Achmelvich, near Lochinver on the list of award winners.

Sutherland Area Chairman of The Highland Council, Councillor Francis Keith was delighted that the award winning beaches in the County had been bolstered this year from three to six. He said: This is very good news for Sutherland and reflects the investment we have made to enhance the quality of our splendid beaches. Our aim is to offer the highest standards for local people and for visitors, whom we want to return to our area each year.

The Provost of Nairn, Councillor Sandy Park also welcomed the accolade for Nairn Central Beach. He said: Tourism is vital to Nairn and keeping our beaches in tip top condition is vital to attracting visitors to our resort.
