Glenmorangie Drams It Up For Charity
How Many Caithness Charities Could Benefit From Payroll Giving?
Glenmorangie plc is setting an example to employers across
Scotland by signing up to Payroll Giving to boost their commitment to good
causes and the community. They, along with The Giving Campaign - a
National initiative to boost charitable giving in the UK, are urging more
local employers to follow suit.

Anne Tattersall, HR Manager,
Glenmorangie plc "Glenmorangie has a long-standing commitment to
corporate social responsibility, within which Payroll Giving plays a
key role. Not only is it easy to administer - offering staff a
tax-effective way to support the causes they care about, we find
that it promotes a feeling of goodwill amongst our employees. 25%
of our staff are now taking part, raising over 7,000 each year in
aid of their favourite charities."
Payroll Giving is one of the most
tax-effective and flexible methods of giving to charity, enabling
employees to make charitable donations straight from their gross
salary (before tax is deducted). Therefore, for a basic rate
taxpayer wanting to give a 10 donation, it will only cost 7.80, or
just 6 for higher rate taxpayers. As an extra incentive, the
Government adds 10% to every donation made in this way, so your
donations are almost doubled to 11, even before any employer
matching. |
In 2001-02, 72.5 million was raised for
charities through Payroll Giving alone with 1,000 companies launching new
schemes in their offices. The Giving Campaign has launched a free toolkit
for organisations looking to get involved in Payroll Giving or in
promoting an existing scheme. The toolkit is designed to provide
companies with everything they need to implement and run a successful
Payroll Giving campaign. The toolkit includes a research report 'The
Business of Giving' which highlights the
business benefits of offering Payroll Giving:
 Improves company image (61%)
 Enhances community involvement programmes (58%)
 Supports employee volunteering (40%)
 Boosts staff morale (34%)
Improves staff recruitment and retention (27%)
