LOCAL TRIO TAKE TEXAS SCRAMBLE AT LYBSTER Recently 15 teams of 3 took part in the Texas Scramble at Lybster Golf Club, which was once again very generously sponsored by Sandisons (Wick) Ltd. The weather on the day proved to be much better than for the recent Open competition but most competitors were treated to a shower at some point in their round. The last 3 golfers to get back to the clubhouse were the most unfortunate and caught the worst of the weather, but a special prize for the highest score on the Hidden Hole was some compensation for Murray Smythe, Lorna MacMillan and Alison Stewart. Receptive and consistent greens contributed to some very good scoring with a home team of seasoned campaigners securing the top prize. John Gunn, John Mackay and Kerwin Farquhar returned an unbeatable net 52.9, with the Reay team of Parnell, Effemey and McGlasson runners up with 54.5. Full results were as follows: 1st - J Gunn, K Farquhar and J Mackay, 55 (2.1) 52.9; 2nd - L Parnell, S Effemey and M McGlasson, 57 (2.5) 54.5; 3rd - A Calder, I Young and W Gunn, 60 (4.6) 55.4. Nearest the Hole - Alan Larnach. Hidden Hole - A Stewart, L MacMillan and M Smythe. Raffle - Round for 4 at Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club - John Gunn; Round for 4 at Muir of Ord - Lee Parnell.
