Caithness News Bulletins July 2003
Dounreay Golfers Charity Cheques The event was financed by the contractors, with the money being used to pay course fees, prizes and other incidental expenses and any balance was to be awarded to charity. As well as the honour of winning the very fine trophy, the winning team was given the privilege of nominating one or more charities to receive the eventual balance of 2,700. The winning team, Orion Group - D Gow & Son, comprising Barry Cann, Paul Savage and host Colin Paterson, chose the Highland Hospice and the Bignold Wing Caithness General Hopital to receive an equal share of the balance. Pauline Craw, who accepted a cheque on behalf of the Bignold Wing, thanked those involved, and said this was the second occasion in a short time that Caithness General had benefited from the generosity of those working at Dounreay. Joanna Geddes of Highland Hospice, in expressing her thanks, said it was very appropriate that this generous sum was the result of a game of golf played in Sutherland by people who work in Caithness, as it would go towards funding vital bed space in the two counties. Dounreay Director Peter Welsh said "I am always delighted when the local community benefits from the decommissioning work at Dounreay. I am equally delighted when local well deserving causes benefit from the leisure pursuits of our staff and contractors". The sponsoring companies were:Alstec; Costain; DGP International; Edmund Nuttall Ltd; Hoare Lea; INBIS; Intech-Power Ltd; Morson International; Mott MacDonald Ltd; NNC/Halcrow; Orion Group - D Gow & Son; RWE Nukem; Sanderson Watts Associastes.
