Traffic Wardens Launch Booklet To Assist Disabled
Drivers to Find Parking In Inverness. Senior Traffic Warden Jim Fisher will launch a Parking Booklet today 10.30 Wednesday 3rd July outside the Caledonian Hotel Church Street Inverness. Northern Constabulary Traffic Wardens identified problems caused by inconsiderate motorists parking in designated parking bays and misuse of the disabled drivers badge by able bodied drivers. Following consultation with a number of organisations who assist the disabled in the Highlands a brochure was produced to advise disabled badge holders on where to find parking in Inverness and the organisations agreed to circulate the information. Senior Traffic Warden Jim Fisher says " We are aware that many disabled drivers travel long distances to the Highland capital and we hope this booklet will help them and others to find parking in the city. Traffic Wardens will assist disabled drivers to find spaces where they are permitted to park. Continuing Jim Fisher says "We are committed to keeping clear bays for specific users." The Traffic Wardens in Inverness in partnership with the Highland Council Roads Department has managed to increase the number of on street disabled bays in Inverness from 9 to 21. As it is estimated that there are 10,000 disabled badges in circulation in the Highlands and as parking is limited in Inverness it will never be easy to find parking. However, this new brochure will provide guidelines for disabled and able-bodied drivers who use the orange/blue badge scheme to park. The brochure also outlines problematic areas where Orange/Blue badge holders must not park as this causes traffic conjestion and disruption. Copies of the new brochure can be obtained from the libraries, the council service point on Church Street, Tourist Information Centre, the bus and railway station, Burnett Road and police stations across the Highlands. Over 30 bays are due to become available when Eastgate Two opens next year. The new development will also accommodate Shopmobility. Organisations involved in the project include; Alzheimers Scotland, Age Concern, Disabled Alliance, M.E. Association, Society for The Blind, Shopmobility Highland and the Highland Community Care Forum. |
