Nathan Warmack (18) was told by school principle Rick McClard to replace his kilt with trousers after Mr Warmack turned up to high school dance in the Highland Dress last year. This led to an international outcry and around 12,000 people signed an online internet petition condemning the decision.

Mr Gibson, a prominent kilt wearer in parliament and honorary president of the Kilt Society of France sent a letter of support to Mr
Warmack, today paid tribute to all those who got involved....

"This was a truly international effort and shows that Scottish heritage is treasured by many people around the world. A special mention
has to be made to the Clan Gunn for taking up the issue and for Bill Fernie and all at Caithness.org who gave the issue a higher profile. In many ways this incident shows that modern world can co exist with the old one, for me it shows that people still treasure their past and traditions while using modern instruments such as the internet to make their point."

He continued...
"The apology is a good step and it shows that the school will probably be more open minded in the future and more accommodating of
other cultures. Mr Warmack's stance has probably changed the mind set of many people in and around his community, and if it has made people more open and tolerant then it can only be a good thing."

He ended by saying that he planned to write to congratulate to Mr Warmack and said that if he ever came to Scotland then he would be happy to welcome him to parliament.
