Friday afternoon will see the field part of Westerseat farm just outside Wick by the Wick river transformed into a sea of tents, marquees and trade stands, stalls, and pens for animals from all over Caithness and the north.  With huge numbers of vehicles and farm machinery descending on the area.   A carnival atmosphere with folk thronging in for the main Show day but increasingly more folk taking a look on the Friday night activities.

A relaxed day for most folk and a chance to catch up with the gossip and a yarn with folk from across the county and farther afield.

Some folks families have been coming to the Caithness County show for several generations and they mingle with the non-farming folk out for a nice day and they may have entered in the many competitions from the Flower Show to the Horse riding events.  Or the children may be taking part in the races or at the pet show, dog show or many other events.

There is plenty to see and many folk make the whole day of it taking in the early morning wandering round the stands and show tents or looking in on the show judging.  then a snack on the tent or over to one of Wick's hotels or restaurants for a slap up lunch before heading back to see the afternoon's events.

A day out enjoyed by generations and this year looks bigger than ever.  And if you are still full of energy there are two dances to choose from where farmers and locals take to the floor and show they can still dance in Caithness.  A long day that may not finish until the early hours of the next and they do it all again next year in another location as the Show moves round its three venues of Halkirk,  Scrabster and Wick.

But this year it's Wick  - On with the 162nd Show................
