A Challenging Snowy Second Gear!
The latest Second Gear Pre-learner Driver Training day took place recently
at Dounreay, using their 'off-road' area and Exhibition Centre. For the
First time ever since the very popular and successful pre-learner driving
programme began the participants had the chance to drive on the 'off road'
area in very snowy conditions!
Second Gear has been produced
as a follow-up day to the successful First Gear training programme and was
co-ordinated and presented by Brian Lavery of the Caithness Community
Learning & Leisure Service & Diane Gibson, Youth Clubs Caithness.
Under the
watchful eyes of local driving instructors Nicola Mowat (Nicola Mowat
Driver training) & John Duffield (Lea View Driving Academy) the eight
participants, Michelle, McCarthy, Michelle Suttar, Claire Treasurer,
Graeme Cameron, Graham Sutherland, Stuart Coghill, Eoghan Spiers and Jan F
de Muijnch-Hughes had a go at more advanced driving manoeuvres than are
covered in the First Gear Programme, with each participant having around
40 minutes driving time each. The rest of the time was
spent covering questions that could arise in the Theory Test and
understanding the required documentation for ownership of a car with the
help of PC's Alan Loomes and James Munro of the Northern Constabulary and
PC Phil Williams-Blake of UKAEA Constabulary. |
