Dounreay  Visit
20 February 03

Students and staff of the North Highland College Community and Health Section visited Dounreay on Thursday 20th February.  The students are currently studying a Learning for Work Course and were given a tour of the Dounreay Training Centre by Bryan Dods, a Training Projects Co-ordinator on site, followed by a visit to the Apprentice Training Department by Jim Swan, Apprentice Training Manager.

Bryan said "It's always nice to be able to explain what we do to youngsters, even if their main interest isn't in apprenticeships or training schemes.  It gives you a good feeling and makes what we do here worthwhile.  The students were a bit apprehensive about 'radiation' and wanted to know about the training that goes on, and I think that giving them simple demonstrations of some of our safety procedures showed them that we're just ordinary people doing a complicated job safely" and Jim Swan commented "It was a pleasure to have such an enthusiastic and happy group of students visiting Apprentice Training, I hope that in the future it will be of some help to the students when applying for jobs".
