HIGHLAND INTERNET USERS WANTED FOR BROADBAND TRIAL
Organisers of a pilot project in the Highlands to
trial new technology that gives up to ten times faster access to the
internet, are looking for business and private sector users of the
internet to take part. It will test a new approach that
could bring broadband ADSL to small exchanges where previously it was not
commercially viable, and needs around 16 users at each of the two
locations to take part. He added: "Access to broadband communications will be a major step forward for these pilot areas. As well as giving much faster access and downloading capability it also has the potential to bring cost savings and competitive advantage to business and applications such as internet radio and on-line gaming to home users. Broadband is the future and we want to make sure that as many people as possible in the Highlands and Islands have the opportunity to be a part of this revolution. We are very keen to help make this pilot a success so that the service can be offered more widely across our area." Scotnet Operations Director Tim Francis commented: "We are pleased to see BT committing to the development of Broadband technology in the Highlands and Islands. The outcome of this trial will have a huge impact in the potential roll-out of Broadband across much of rural Scotland. We would like to hear from any interested parties served by the Muir of Ord or Drumnadochit telephone exchanges interested in participating in the trial" Scotnet should be contacted directly on 0845 270 0010. |
