ERIC LARNACH WINS THE DAY AT LYBSTER
OPEN GOLF
Despite
the overcast and windy conditions, a grand total of fifty golfers competed
in the Lybster Open last Saturday, however, the combination of fast greens
and strong wind combined to make low scoring difficult.
The best gross scores of the day were
posted by members of the host club, with Alistair Young and Eric Larnach
both returning totals of 65. As a result of taking one shot less
than Alistair on the back nine, Eric won the Lybster Open 2005 courtesy of
the Better Inward Half.
Local knowledge also proved valuable for
former Lybster GC stalwart, George Calder, now a member at Wick. George
returned an excellent 69 (13) 56 to win the prize for the best nett, with
seasoned campaigner Ramsay Mackay in close pursuit with a score of 77 (19)
58.
The ever popular 'Nearest the Hole'
competition, competed for at the 5th and 14th, was won by Thurso member
Colin Mackay, with a distance of only 16 inches. Reay member Lee
Parnell won the main prize in the raffle, a round of golf for four at the
Loch Ness Golf Club.
Margaret Larnach presented the prizes on
behalf of the sponsors, the Lybster branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Lybster will also be the venue for
another open competition on Thursday 4th August. It will be a Stableford
competition, open to ladies, gents and juniors, and the tee will be open
from 8am - 4pm.
