Liam Henderson Tribute Football Match Appeal 2004

Letter From the Henderson & Swanson Families
Sir,
May we, through your column state that, we the Henderson and Swanson
families cannot begin to express our gratitude for the love, help, support
and encouragement we have received not only on the 31st July but
continuously over the past 8 months. To date our fundraising effort stands
at over 21,000. A figure that has exceeded our wildest expectations.
Thanks seems such an inadequate word so perhaps Liams favourite term
Quality is more appropriate.
To name you all individually would fill at least an entire page of this
publication and we would surely unintentionally omit someone therefore we
simply wish to say You know who you are and our heartfelt thanks goes to
each and everyone of you. Nothing will ever take away the pain and hurt of
losing Liam but having friends like yourselves helps us to make it through
each day.
Good will triumph over Evil

Prize List Just Keeps
Growing
The raffle prize list just keeps getting longer as generous
folk from all over the world send in prizes. In fact so many are
coming in and yet more are promised that a
Silent auction will be held for
some of the items now coming in.
After much deliberation we have decided that
due to the sheer volume of & specialist nature of some of the donations
(offers are still coming in) that we are going to go hold the silent
auction - on the evening of the 31st July. Bids can be placed personally
or on line (for those folk unable to come to Newmachar) to
[email protected]

Liam Henderson Tribute Football Match
Raffle
Prizes Donated To Date
The raffle to be held at the same time
as the tribute football match in Aberdeen has already received massive
response from Caithness and elsewhere. The raffle to be drawn in
July already must be one of the biggest raffles ever raised in Caithness.
Donations are pouring in to Mr and Mrs Henderson. The money raised
will be divided between East end Boys Club, Wick and the Newmacher
Colts based in the small village outside Aberdeen where Liam had chosen to
live and reflecting his passion for football. There is still plenty
of time to donate a prize or make a donation to the fund. McAllans
who have agreed to display the raffle prizes nearer the draw are going to
need a much bigger window.

Liam Hendersons Tribute
Football Match Appeal
Dear Sir/Madam,
We are writing to you to request some
practical support for the above game. As you may be aware our youngest son
Liam was tragically killed on the15th November 2003 in the Toryglen area
of Glasgow. He was making his way to the Scotland V Holland game that
day.
Liam, an ardent member of the Tartan Army
regularly supported the Scottish team at home & abroad, was just 23 years
old and had graduated in July 2003 from Robert Gordons University
Aberdeen with a degree in computer science. He had secured employment with
Grampian NHS in their IT dept upgrading their computer systems and had
settled in Newmacher a small village 9 miles north of Aberdeen. His
death was the result of the senseless actions of a moron who deliberately
drove his car into a crowd of supporters as they made their way to
Hampden.
As we are determined to do something in
Liam's memory we are arranging an annual charity football game - Wick
(Liams home town) V Newmacher (his adopted home). This year the game will
be held in Newmacher on the 31st July 2004.
Caithness Glass has donated the trophy. This is where we require your
support. We intend running a raffle (to be drawn after the match) & we
would be really grateful if you could provide us with an item that we
could use as a prize. Our local newspaper
the Groat is paying to have the tickets printed & numerous other local
businesses have also provided prizes. Aberdeen, Celtic & Rangers have
already donated signed shirts & footballs. An internet appeal by the
Secretary of the North American Rangers Supporters Association has
generated a fantastic response of supporter club footballs, polo shirts, T
shirts and caps. McAllans has also agreed
to display the trophy & various raffle items in the weeks running up to
the game.
All proceeds from the game & raffle will be
shared equally between the East End boys football team here in Wick, and
the Newmacher Colts.
Your support, by providing a donation, would
be greatly appreciated.
Yours truly,
Janice & John Henderson |
