Organisers of The Highland Councils first Highland Junior Golf Championship have been encouraged by the number of applications for the new tournament to be included in the golfing calendar. Seventy four young golfers from throughout the Highlands, Islands and Moray have been announced as competing for the Highland Junior Golf Championship to be held on Tuesday 15th April at the internationally renowned Carnegie Golf Club at Skibo Castle. Of the 74 under 18 year olds, 5 of the competitors are girls and the remaining 69 boys. Organised by The Highland Council and sponsored by Tullochs plc, the event is endorsed by the North District Golf Association and draws together the best young golfing talent from the area. Trophies will be awarded in scratch, handicap and, unusually, school team events. Event organiser, Willie MacKay, The Highland Councils Youth Golf Development Officer said: The interest in the competition has been very encouraging. We have players entering from afar afield as Orkney in the north to Fort William in the south and Ullapool in the west to Buckie in the east. Other golfers are represented from: Dornoch, Golpsie, Tarbat, Tain, Invergordon, Muir of Ord, Reay, Strathpeffer, Alness, Wick, Nairn, Rothes, Spey Bay, Elgin, Fortrose, Lossiemouth, Inverness, and Spean Bridge. He added: We are looking forward to an exciting day of golf in the magnificent setting of Skibo Castles Carnegie Golf Course. We wish all our competitors the best of luck and would like to thank our sponsor Tullochs plc and Skibo Castle for making this day possible. |
