Ossian Exhibition
Swanson Gallery, Thurso
On until 18 April 2003
The latest Exhibtion at Swanson Gallery,
Thurso is by Calum Colvin taking Ossian the blind poet of the third
century as its theme. The verses were presented by James Macpherson
in the 1760's to a public enthused by the idea of a 'Scottish Homer'
(Voltaire) and the Romantic thought that noble culture could be a product
of a primitive age an a remote place.
The pictures are stunning and full of idea and need
some thought to pick up all of the aspects. an excellent catalogue
is available and there are a set of notes to look at whilst you study the
pictures. |
