Caithness News Bulletins July 2007
Viking Ventures Nineteen people attended the event and had a great time partaking in the various themed challenges to win sections of Viking boat kits which were then assembled. Two teams undertook the challenges which included, milk the cow, grind the corn, spear the deer, tug o war, treasure hunt and a runic alphabet quiz. During a sandwich break the teams also composed their own Viking marching songs and performed them in front of the impressed rangers and volunteers. Both helpers and participants wore various costumes and armaments made by the rangers and several bewildered visitors were seen to stand and wonder what exactly was taking place. North Sutherland ranger Paul Castle said: Everyone really got into the spirit of things and a great time was had by all. Many thanks must go to the Lochaber rangers for lending us the boats and also to the Caithness rangers and volunteers without whose invaluable help none of this would have happened. There is another opportunity to join in the fun as the event is taking place again but this time in Caithness on Tuesday 7 August at Dunnet Forest.
