Passenger Numbers In Highland - September 2005
HIAL Reports 10% Passenger Growth in Second Quarter Total air passenger numbers in the Highlands and Islands have increased by 9.8% in the past six months, according to figures released today by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited. HIAL’s 10 airports handled 612,740 passengers from 1 April to the end of September compared with 558,024 in 2004/05. Nine of the company’s 10 airports have increased their passengers in the past six months with only Islay showing a small drop of just over 100 passengers over the period. A total of 109,452 passengers travelled via HIAL’s airports during September compared to 93,011 in September 2004. The fastest growing airports in the month compared to 2004 were Inverness (24.3%), Sumburgh (31.3%) and Tiree (49.1%). Aircraft movements in September totalled 8,145, a 15.6% increase on 2004’s figure, while the six-month total stands at 50,226, 15.3% up on last year. Inglis Lyon, HIAL’s managing director said: “HIAL’s strategy to improve air services in the region is delivering results that are benefiting both communities and the economy. Effective partnerships with the airlines have improved the overall air network by delivering new routes and enhancements to established services.
