Massed Bands And Fireworks Display
Wick - 21 September 2002

The four bans played in the market square on Saturday evening at 8.15pm.  The bands played sets of tunes individually with massed bands playing between each band both standing and marching.  After the concert on the Market Square each band marched playing all the way to the service bridge that overlooks the outer harbour.  The bands formed a mass band on the bridge and played throughout the fireworks display.  A truly unusual and delightful site on an autumn evening as a hint of Autumn dampness began to creep in but the rain stayed away.  With almost 100 pipers and drummers there was certainly a big sound in the Market Square and at the Fireworks.
After the fireworks the massed bands left the bridge and marched along Williamson Street towards the Heritage Centre and formed up facing the harbour once again where the Pipe Major dismissed them.  There was then a ceilidh in the Dounreay Club.
