The
Voting System for the Scottish Parliament
|
73
Constituency MSP’s elected by the first past the
post system in the first ballot. |
|
56
Additional Members elected by proportional
representation. |
|
The
Additional Members |
|
Each
of the electoral regions will return 7 Additional
Members (7MSP’s x 8 Regions = 56 Additional MSPs) |
The
method for Additional Members is as follows –
|
Total
number of additional member votes cast for each party
across the region will be calculated. |
|
This
total is divided by the number of Constituency MSPs
the party has won in the region using "first past
the post" system, plus one(to make sure none is
divided by zero). |
|
Party
left with highest total after the division gains the
first of the seven Additional Members. |
|
The
second to the seventh Additional Members are allocated
on the same basis, but each new Additional Member
gained by each party is now included in the
calculation. |
