Reference O15 Accession O15 This was deposited in the archive some time in 1996 from Property and Architectural Services and covers the dates 1938-c.1980. It consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence, with housing application forms and internal council memos etc. It is under the normal 30-year closure period except where indicated. There are some obvious gaps, particularly in the early years Housing return forms and correspondence over individual cases O15/1 Applications for building
warrants: completed forms and covering correspondence. Relating to
properties in areas including Bilbster, Scrabster, Latheronwheel and
Halkirk. O15/2 Housing returns forms of
Caithness County Council relating to the Housing (Agricultural Population)
Act 1938. These are short statistical summaries with brief covering
letters, and occasional additional correspondence clarifying terms under
which grants should be made O15/3 (i-iii) Specifications,
applications and correspondence re housing improvements. Includes details
of work to be undertaken and certificates of completion. Large file now
split between three folders for preservation purposes (numbered i-iii) O15/4 Specifications and
correspondence re application of Alex Matheson for reconditioning of his
house at Upper Gills, 1930 and 1942-48. Enclosed plans appear to date from
the latter period O15/5 Correspondence relating to
the house of Nurse Margaret Grant at Berriedale regarding problems with
her water supply O15/6 Housing return forms for
Caithness (see O15/2) with printed housing returns for Scotland and brief
covering letters.

licences/material for Dunnet, 1946-1953. Forms from applicants, one plan,
and a letter from the architect querying one application. O15/16 Applications for building
licences/materials 1948-1952, mostly Latheron parish but two from
Thrumster village. Forms, plans and a few covering letters. O15/17 Building licence correspondence and applications 1947-1950. Applications and details sent to County Architect under the national building programme, mostly for dwelling houses but including Clyth lighthouse O15/18 Building materials priority forms issued to builders in conjunction with post-war housing redevelopment. 1946-1948 O15/19 Applications to county
architect for building licences and improvements, 1948-1953. Mostly
completed Ministry of Works forms but including a few plans. Miscellaneous topics relating to

memoranda relating to contractors monthly reports on projects building
project financed by the council. Very few items give much detail, though
central council minutes for this period may supplement the information on
progress given here. O15/24 Draft survey development plan for Wick burgh, 1951. 33 pages. 1951 O15/25 Application forms and
covering correspondence relating to work requiring timber licences O15/26 Correspondence re Swedish
timber houses at Rumster, 1951-1952. These matters are also discussed in
