Rural Grants Home Ownership Scheme |
The scheme in Caithness is run by Pentland Housing Association on behalf of Scottish Homes. People who want to buy a house in the country may be eligible for a grant of up to 29% of the cost through the scheme. The means tested grants are aimed primarily at first time buyers and are intended to sustain communities outwith a five mile radius of Thurso or Wick. To be eligible applicants must be seeking a house which matches their needs. The grant is intended to bridge the gap between the asking price and the borrowing limit of the applicant. the grants are limited and Pentland had at 27 October 2000 already processed two out of a possible four.
