Care Throughout the Highlands

The Hospice Inverness

Highland Hospice is one of 13 hospices in Scotland, and serves the whole Highland area.

The specialist palliative care service gives a high level of professional skills from a trained inter-disciplinary team. The team includes - a consultant, nurses, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, aromatherapist, family support worker and chaplain.

The aim is to not only provide care for patients, relatives and friends, but also to act as a resource centre for other palliative health care professionals.

Based in Inverness, the Hospice has an in-patient unit, a day hospice, and training centre.

Two Highland Hospice nurses work in Caithness and Sutherland as part of the locally-based palliative care team. They help to provide an enhanced local resource for doctors, nurses and other professionals caring for patients with advanced incurable illness.

Volunteering for Highland Hospice
Caithness and Sutherland

Volunteers play an integral and important part in the day-to-day running of Highland Hospice, as money raised contributes to the provision of palliative care for people with terminal illness.

Help is required locally for various aspects of fundraising, including the Hospice Shops in Wick and Thurso.

Shop volunteers need to give a commitment of three hours per week and previous retail experience is not necessary. Training will be given.

You will find that shop work is fun and a source of friendship and social contact. For more details of how you can help Highland Hospice, Caithness & Sutherland - ring Joanna on 01847 896703 or enquire at the Wick or Thurso Shop.
