Using Wick Deaf Care Centre From 11 June 2002 on Tuesdays and Fridays WHO ARE WE Crossroads (Caithness) is one of the eight Crossroads Care Attendant schemes within the Highland Council area. We are affiliated to Crossroads (Scotland) as a whole. The scheme is a charitable organisation set up in Caithness in 1988 following a survey that demonstrated the need for respite care for those who were looking after others in their own home on a more or less full time basis. The scheme provides fully trained, security cleared, Care Attendants who substitute for a carer for a period of time on a flexible basis to allow the carer some time to themselves, either within or out with the home. The scheme provides an experienced and confidential service to those in need of our support. We work in close cooperation with other caring organisations - both statutory or voluntary. We respond to individual need within the resources available to us. The part time Care Attendants are managed on a day-to-day basis by a full time Co-ordinator/Manager. The scheme is a limited company with a Board of Directors and a Management Committee members are all unpaid volunteers. DUTIES UNDERTAKEN BY A CARE ATTENDANT INCLUDE TASKS SUCH AS:-

CARE SERVICES PROVIDED
Crossroads is aimed at Carers who look after:
Once the Co-ordinator is alerted to a need, she carries out a care assessment in the client/carer's home to determine the level of support required which leads to an individual care plan. In many instances the support from Crossroads may be additional to that provided by other organisations, and will in no way affect other services received. The co-ordinator makes every effort to match the client and carer with the Care Attendant delivering the service. If however a problem develops, the Co-ordinator should be contacted immediately. CARER'S RESPONSIBILITIES If the carer wishes to change arrangements or request extra care to those already established, he/she must first contact the Co-ordinator to see if hours are available. Any care arrangements made with the Care Attendant will not be paid for by Crossroads and carries no insurance cover. Any cancellation of a period of care must be notified to the Co-ordinator allowing her to offer the hours to another carer/client. STAFF TRAINING Training is given to all members of staff, this can take the form of updating through regular Care attendant meetings held by the Co-ordinator or individual courses. These are provided by outside organisations and training schemes provided by Crossroads (Scotland). In particular Care Attendants are trained in:-
