Caithness Field Club Trips (by Anna Rogalski)
On 12th July 1922, Caithness Field Club made a trip to Sandside, Reay and on 16th July 1924, a trip to Braemore. My paternal grandfather Tom Miller and his business partner at that time, Willie Harrold, supplied transport. The Sandside invoice was made out to a Miss Doull and the hire of the motor car cost 2.10 (two pounds ten shillings). The Braemore trip used a “laundaulette” and a Ford car. There was also mention on that invoice of a “laundaulette to Watten with Mr Sutherland” apparently on the same date. Was this another trip or was he just being driven home to Watten after the day out? I am glad to report that Caithness Field Club paid both bills promptly! Thank you to Nucleus: the Nuclear and Caithness Archive, Wick for permission to use images of the original invoices which they hold. (Reference P15/17 (1)) |
