Caithness Field Club Summer Programme 2004
All Outings meet at Wick and Thurso Railway Stations Friday 30 April - Monday 3 May - The Club weekend at Ballater. Cost �40 each per day Dinner bed and breakfast - almost fully booked - check with Marion as above. Sunday 16 May - Climb up Morven with Geoff Leet (896989). Leave Wick and Thurso 9.30am meet at the Langwell Garden Centre 10.20am to drive up the Estate Road to Wag, then we climb two steep miles. There will also be a low level walk. Saturday and Sunday 22-23 May - A visit from the Neolithic Studies Group. We are invited to tag along. Saturday lunch at Thrumster - �5 - Book with Marion (892999) Sunday 30 May - A walk to the Duke of Kent's monument at Braemore. Leave Wick and Thurso 9.30am and park three miles south of Dunbeath on the track going inland to the standing stone. Leaders - Jack Barnaby ( 892583) and Myra Wilson. (892179) Sunday 27 June - Walk to the broch at Balnacoil, Strath Brora. Leave Wick and Thurso 9.30am and park at the old ford 11.00am. Leader Calum MacKenzie (893754) Thursday - 15 July - A tour of Olrig House by kind permission of the Rev and Mrs Vellacott led by Lyn Leet. CLUB MEMBERS ONLY - Meet at the Town Car Park Castletown 7.00pm. Sunday 25 July - Botany on Dunnet Links. Leave Wick 9.30am and Thurso 9.45am meeting at the Dunnet caravan site 10.15am. Ken Butler to lead (01847 893549) Sunday 8 August - Learable Hill Kildonan. Leave Wick and Thurso 9.30am meet at the Kildonan suspension bridge 10.40am. Leader unspecified due to holiday period. Wednesday 25 August - An evening wander around Wick with lain Sutherland meeting at the Wick Heritage Centre 7.30pm. Wednesday 15 September - A mid-week walk to Badryrie. Leave Wick and Thurso 9.30am and park at Loch Stemster by the Achavanich stone circle at 10.00am. A two mile soggy walk leads to our wood regeneration project and a settlement with built-in whisky still and stone fence posts.
