Caithness Field Club Summer Programme 2003

Events are free unless otherwise stated. People take part in our walks at their own risk. Ticks can be a hazard in sheep and deer country and it is best to wear sensible clothing and footwear with trousers tucked into socks.

Tuesday 8 April - The A.G.M. at the Brown Trout Watten at 7.30pm. This will be followed by supper (Sandwiches, cakes, tea or coffee) for which a small charge will be made.

Sunday 27 April - The Annual Coach Trip - A Tour around Caithness - Geoff Leet to lead. To book and for details please phone Marion 01847 892999

Tuesday 6 May - A talk by Elizabeth Beaton - "Traditional Buildings in Caithness" in the Pentland Hotel at 7.30pm.

Sunday 18 May - A walk following "the Priest's Road" over the Scarabens. Approx 9 miles - leaving Wick and Thurso Railway Stations at 9.30am meeting at the Langwell Garden Centre 10.15am. Geoff Leet (01847 896989) to lead.

Friday 23 May - Monday 26 - The Club Weekend - In Orkney this year. We stay at the Kirkwall Hotel. To book and for details phone Marion (01847 892999)

Sunday 1 June - A walk in Strath Brora to Ducharry Hill Fort. Leaving Wick and Thurso Railway Stations at 9.15am meeting in Brora Square. This is a 7 mile walk led by Jack Barnaby (01847 892583).

Sunday 15 June - A walk Duncansby Stacks to Skirza. Leaving Wick and Thurso Railway Stations at 9.15am meeting at Duncansby Stacks car park. Calum MacKenzie will lead (01847 893754)

Wednesday 9 July - AN EVENING WALK - To see puffins at Drum Hollistan led by Ken Butler (01847 893549). Leaving Wick Railway Station 6.30pm meeting in Thurso at 7pm.

Wednesday 6 August - A trip to Forse, Lybster, Water Lines which will be open for refreshments if required at a small charge. Myra Wilson to lead. Leave Wick and Thurso Railway Stations at 9.30am meet at the Clan Gunn Museum car park.

Sunday 31 August - A sail is proposed, possibly to Pentland Skerries. This is very weather - dependent and numbers will be limited. Intending sailors should contact Gordon Mclachlan nearer the time (Phone 851 753)

NON-MEMBERS ARE WELCOME. CAR SEATS ARE USUALLY AVAILABLE JUST ARRIVE AT THE MEETING PLACE WITH BOOTS AND SANDWICHES ALL OUR WALKS ARE SUBJECT TO PERMISSION FROM FARMERS. WE DO NOT ALLOW DOGS.
