A-Z of Caithness Places

Newton Hill lies just outside Wick and has a number of houses in ribbon developments mixed with small farms and one or two small businesses.    The old county rubbish tip that was at the top has been landscaped and turned into a Community Woodland.

Newtronhill Woodland Closed
Newton Hill Community Woodland has been closed since 2008 on health and safety ground by Highland Council.  The reasons are contaminated water and asbestos surfacing from the old tip that is buried beneath a thin layer of earth.  It is hoped that a new woodland can be opened nearby in coming years
