Thrumster House
The Summer House
Summer House built in the 18th century at the
front of the Thrumster or Garden Broch.
Stone was used from the broch to build the summer house and the broch
itself was turned into a small garden.
At that time it would have been fashionable to use an ancient
archaeological structure as a garden feature removing stone to
build the summer house as well as the surrounding walls.
A village probably lay in front of the broch and the ground looks as if
there would have been a sizeable population
The broch was excavated in the 1700's one of the earliest such
excavations.
